Film Reviews: The vacuum left by the Soviet Union’s collapse is the subtext of "Piter," an absorbing look at seven residents of St. Petersburg and their conflicted relationship to both past and future. While lacking the mournful-tinged lyricism of Sokurov’s "Elegies," helmers Jessica and Frank Gorter highlight the schizophrenia of a people burdened by recent history. Docu will be a good selection for cable outlets.
