Radiohead Guitarist Goes Classical
Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood has been recruited by the BBC to produce a modern day classical pieces with an orchestra. According to the Sunday Times, the BBC approached Greenwood in a strategy that is all about generating interest in youth and shedding their stuffy image. If Greenwood takes the job, he will work for the BBC for three years. He would replace Anne Dudley, of Art of Noise fame, whose hits include ’Peter Gun Theme’ and ’Kiss’ (with Tom Jones). Greenwood recently dabbled with soundtrack work, releasing the solo album’Body Song’ from music written for the movie of the same name. The job will include composing TV show themes and working at festivals. Greenwood is not trained in classical music but learned viola as a child.
