To begin:
For the little kids on RE this will not cut tree’s down or kill people . Lmao just had to say that, But with all seriousness this is my newest egg since like 05’ but rate it fair. This egg is not my idea but research off of other peoples ideas but so far there is not one on RE about this .
The Egg
I will now show you how to take a regular Laser pointer you can buy just about anywhere for cheap and turn it into a laser powerful enough to light matches on fire and pop balloons =].
First Off
You want to start by taking the batteries out of the laser. Then screw off the top of the laser and you shold now see a small glass bulb like thing. That is the top of the laser where the "light". Well in the standard laser form it is actually less than 5 milliwatts of light wavelngth. But anyways You now need to take the rim of this which is a thin piece of metal and gentle but firmly pull with a pair of pliars . You should now have something like this: Heres another view of it from the other side Now what the hell do i do ?
Ok so now you have a basic circuit board with doo dads on it lol.The screw looking thing in the pic above needs to be tightened moderately but don’t over kill it . For this you need to break out them micro screw drivers or a eyeglasses screwdrive will work.
Next
Now on the other side .One of those doo dads we talk about is a resistor. It looks like this but a different color .On my laser which i bought for like 5$ at mule day in TN lol its brown..
What you want to do is short this little fucker out haha. The simplest safest way is if you have a soldering iron let it heat up and press it on that resistor for a few seconds.. Resistors are used in electronics im pretty sure you have seen one before . Basically they take a high voltage and lower it down to a smaller voltage . In this case it makes the laser pointer less powerful but you just shorted it out so the full current is used.

In Closing
Just take and put your laser pointer back together and if you did everything like I explained it should light matches and pop balloons. I am sorry about the pictures I lost my camera in a cave a week or two ago so I have to get a new one lol . But when I do you shall get pics of this beast in proccess.

I know it is old but there are none on this site that i could find. So this is new to the directory

this is bullshit, i own 4 lasers, 1green 30mw laser, 1green 100mw laser, and 2red 200mw lasers.

these cheap lasers such as the one in your pic have verrrrry basic diods, no where near anought to pup a baloon or light a match with it buring itself out, and trust me, youll burn the little fucker out if you remover the resistor, it will cut its life into a cupplle of days, and probebly wont produce anymore then 1mw.

0 for the fake egg.

if this realy worked you would have posted a video.

Holding vote. Doesn’t seem believable.

I actually seen an egg on youtube where a guy used pretty much exactly the same method to do this, and shew you him doing it and the results. I think he may have said it has to be a green laser, I’m not sure though. I also don’t really remember him shorting the resistor but I suppose he must have.

Would pressing the hot soldering iron to it short it out? I didn’t know that.

4*, took one off for the broken pic and the layout regarding the pics (I think it looks much neater when they are on a line of there own. Also riptotse sounds like he knows his stuff and if it’ll only last a couple of days, that should have probably been mentioned in the egg.

But apart from that, good job! well explained, easy to follow, not seen it on here before. Keep up the good work dude. =)

I thought it was something else you were supposed to
burn down

but I’ll try this and rate your profile
by the effects

but the egg gets a 4*

No vote at the moment because part of me wants to agree with riptotse. From what I can remember from engineering a few years ago, without a resistor the circuit will short out. It will have too much flowing through it at once and will overload.

you cant make a < 1mw laser to a 50mw laser just by burning off a risistor!!!!

coops, yer iv seen the video too, and it is achivable with a laser with a diod over 20mw, burning off the risistor will make it about 30mw or 40mw

but it is just simple not posible with these cheep kinds of lasers.

I want to see a video of this device you made in action before I rate it. If it works, I’ll 5* it.

ive seen this done but it has a small screw to adjust the power and you just turned that screw. and you’ll never have a good laser pointer unless you buy a good one because the cheap laser pointers don’t have UV filter which help with the power of the laser beam. 2*

If you can prove this works, I’ll five it as well.

thanks . and i see totse reasoning with the resistor it goes out after awhile but sometimes it just gets weaker. But yes give me a couple days and ill post the vid gotta borrow a damn camera. but thanks

Haha dipshit, you are overloading that fucking diode with WAAAY too much current. This is called a pot mod (altering the potentiometer) which in turns jams the current right up.

Enjoy your .5 seconds of 6mW power instead of hours and hours of 5mW.

That’s what I was trying to say RWS. Thanks for saying what I was thinking in better words.

I tell you guys what . Im going to take my egg above and make another one with soldering a different resistor in to give it just enough power to do this but not burn the thing completely up ill re design the whole laser and post a part 2 egg . so this is one of 2 .

Note: Most forms of potentiometer modification and driver shortage result in the death of your laser.

Want a high power one? BUY A HIGH POWER ONE.

those stupid little things couldn’t handle full output, get a real laser and beg to join my group.
