In this egg, I will tell you how to build a simple pneumatic spudgun all for less than $30
[Mine, Black coat od Krylon Fusion Spray Paint]
DIAGRAM
[click for full size]
Materials 1. At least 3 feet of 1/2" Sch 40 PVC
2. At least 2 feet of 1/2" Sch 40 PVC
3. A 3/4" Sch 40 End Cap
4. A Schrader Valve
5. 3/4" to 1/2" Reducing Coupling [90 degree elbow form]
6. A 1/2" 90 degree elbow
7. A 1/2" Ball Valve
8. A 1/2" T section [optional]
9. Electrical Tape
10. PVC Cement
11. PVC Primer
[Note] Make sure all PVC components are Sch 40!!!
Tools 1. A Saw or PVC cutter
2. A Drill bit, I think its 5/16 for the Schrader Valve
3. A Drill
4. A 3/4" hole drilling bit [optional]
Construction 1. Cut a 2’2" section of 1/2" PVC
2. Cut a 2’ section of 3/4" PVC
3. Cut a 2" section of 1/2" PVC
4. Dry assemble the spudgun [don’t glue anything just yet] according to the diagram
5. Drill a hole just big enough in the middle of the end cap for the Schrader Valve. Twist the Schrader Valve into place, coat the threads on the valve in PVC cement.
6. Learn to make PVC welds correctly http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/index.php?title=Solvent_welding 7. Assemble the Cannon, solvent welding one piece at a time
8. To make the [optional] muzzle break, saw off the arms of the T piece, then using the big bit, drill a 3/4" hole
9. I suggest not welding the muzzle break as it may need to be removed for the loading of certain types of ammo.
10. After about 2 hours, get a piece of scrap 1/2" PVC cut to length to fit perfectly between the barrel and the chamber). Attach by using lots of electrical tape.
11. wait a SOLID 24 HOURS BEFORE PRESSURIZING.
Firing/Testing 1. Test the solvent welds by placing the cannon under a heavy blanket and pressurize the gun to 80 psi by connecting a bicycle pump, or an air compressor to the Schrader valve. If they’re are no leaks, or pieces that bursts off, you’re good to go, if something bad happens, re-build accordingly.
2. To fire the cannon, simply pressurize to a max of 120 psi, then twist the ball valve as fast as possible.
Ammo Ideas
1. AA batteries wrapped in a few layers of tape to fit snuggly
2. Marbles
3. Spuds
4. Nails or screws wrapped in tape to fit snuggly
5. Wadding can be used to fire just about anything that fits down the barrel.
And here is a damage shot, its from a AA battery wrapped in duct tape, fired at 120psi from 10 feet away.

The valve is something that’ll need work. Usually, the PVC ball valves are difficult to turn quickly. Also, the 180 degree ’u’ bend isn’t the best thing for flow, but it works for the compactness of the gun overall.
