Thermite is good, hot and fun but thermate TH3 is better, hotter and alot more fun..
to make 300g we need........ (use scales that have the decimal for more accurate measurements, but its not that important)

206.1g of thermite
87g of barium nitrate
6g of sulfur
0.9g of dextrin

get the ingredients off ebay, they might not be listed but email a seller that has iron oxide powder or aluminum powder, the chances are they sell what you need.
---------------

mix all the ingredients together in a big pile, make sure there properly mixed then....

put it in a disposable container, i used a paper coffee cup.

now add abit of water, and stir, don\\’t over do it with the water, put a few drops in then stir, then a few more until it becomes a slugy mess.

This next bit is important...

get a red ball can cut off the top and tip the mix in it, use a spoon you don\\’t want to use again to scoop it out, use the same spoon to smooth it out. now for the very important bit......

TAKE IT OUTSIDE!!

once its all mixed and smoothed take it away from anything living and anything flammable, after about 30mins - 1hr it reacts and gives off a lot of heat and a lot of fumes. this has something to do with hard water, i think.

DONT FORGET!!

everthing you mixed with i.e conatiner, spoon ect will heat up and give of fumes so take it outside, dont chuck it in the bin untill its cooled down!!!!

after a few hours it should of cooled and be solid and raised like a cake, take it back inside.

get a knife you don\\’t need and chip away at the top until its level with the can, then use folded tin foil and electrical tap to seal the top, for more reliable ignition, dig a small hole in the middle for the igniter (next step). i wrapped the can up in red electrical tap this is purly to give it a grenade look :-).

now we\\’re ready to ignite.

once its been transported to were ever you want to take it, rip the tin foil off. then grab a sparkler and cut about 5cm (2 inches) off. we use this as the ignition. sparklers are better than magnesium as they can be lite with a lighter not a bloody blow torch!!

pop the sparkler on top of the can, making sure it has good contact with the thermate, or pop it in the hole you made earlier. light the bastard and walk away

WARNING!!

barium nitrate gives off toxic chemicals when the mixture is drying or ignited!!!

NOTE.
its THERMATE not THERMITE, there diffrent, thermite is iron oxide and aluminum, thermate has iron oxide, aluiminum, baruim nitrate, sulfur and is binded together.

not a bad egg, pretty good in fact, but its a bomb and and will be dropped, so im not going to even bother voting.

it’s not a bomb as it doesnt explode .

this eggs is not a bomb, it doesnt explode, its exactly the same as a normal thermite reaction only hotter and last longer

Lisk

Sep 25, 2008 5:18 am -
Its not really a bomb more of a incenery device.

Confineing thermite to a sealed container doesnt make it a bomb as thermite doesnt explode

It’s not a bomb ,it’s a "chemistry experiment"!yuk!yuk!

5*s

We should have warnings at the beginning of dangerous Eggs...

It should be noted that once ignited, there is no effective method of extinguishing the reaction. Pouring water on it can cause major property damage, serious injury or death. Fire extinguishers are useless as thermites and it’s variants supply their own O2. This should be done in a safely prepared area. Caution should be used as to what is directly below the reaction. If molten thermite/thermate comes in contact with certain stones, the stones can explode due to uneven expansion, or sudden vaporization of internal moisture. If the burning thermite/thermate is allowed to spill on the topsoil, if there are roots near the surface, an underground root fire can occur. A shallow crater in a bed of dry sand should be safest.

I am going to hold my vote until I do a little research on the ratios and such... Looks good, though.

And, after typing all that, I checked the URL of the images...
This, word-for-word, is on Instructables.com. If that is YOUR Instructable (yes, I see the names are the same), you need to log into that account and post a comment saying that you posted this on RE. If you can’t do that, this Egg will be dropped for Copy/Paste and copyright infringement. Please log into Instructabes and post that comment ASAP.
If that is in fact your Instructable, please don’t take offense to my questioning. It’s my job. TY.

well buddy sorry to burst your bubble but what you made is NOT Thermate. It is only weakened thermite. If it were super thermite it would have burned straight through whatever that is you had under it and then kept going. Next time add a video too.

2*

Thats what i thought at first too shady.

It looks like metal or plastic. Thermite would of pissed threw that.

It appears he has made a thermite which is %80 weaker. if not more so.

Thanks for the proof... And for not taking it the wrong way.

I vote 4*. The ratios seem correct, the pics are very clear and properly sized... It seems to be an excellent Egg, other than that the images are hosted on another submission based site instead of an image host like Photobucket.com. Otherwise, it’d have been a five.
You should post a link to the video that you posted on Instructables.

yes I believe you fucked up by putting in the dextrin water and barium nitrate. You sacrifice ALLOT of power for binding it by using water and dextrin. I’m not so sure the barium nitrate did you too much justice with the mix either. Now your left with Iron oxide Aluminum and sulfur...this sir, is Thermate. (in rough form of course)

Shai_Hulud

Oct 01, 2008 4:23 pm - ...
Why would you make this? Standard thermite in the amount that seems to be present in that cup would most certainly melt all the way through a simple hard drive. You’ve made it far worse.
1*. It had pics and effort, but your spelling was horrid and the product was worse than what it was originally intended to replace.

if this supplies it’s own O2, that means with waterproof visco this could work under water. o.O
5* anyway
