What do you do to feel free?
I just finished a rather hefty physics lab report on an experiment about centripetal force, and am halfway through a comparitive essay on the a Jazz piece and a classical piece.
So I have a nip of whisky, and a little tiny toke, I feel good now, free, and metally "loose", kind of like what I imagine my mind would feel like if it could go for a jog, stretch off and cool off in a crisp, cool, pool.
I throw on The Clash (lost in the supermarket) and chill for a few minutes, before I go back to piecing together the parts of my essay. The jazz I’m listening to is quite loose and smooth too.
This classical is a little grinding though.
What do you do..?

Sit back, have a glass of Malibu (white rum) and coke, put on a relaxing chick flick and cuddle up to Mr Blackaura.. when he is around.
Or after a long day of work, I just stick my ear phones on and listen to some NIN (Nine Inch Nails), lay on my bed and just close my eyes and relax.

Who wants to ’feel free’ as you have expressed it. my brain is tightly wound and churning from the moment I wake until at least an hour after I’ve fallen asleep.
The most relaxed my mind has ever been was watching 2 hours of Pinky And The Brain a few months ago. I was so relaxed and thoughtless that I cannot even recall what any of the episodes were about.

That is easily discernable, just by reading your posts, colin.
Many people crave this feeling, it stops them from having breakdowns and the such.
I spent a long time living like you do, colin, until I realized the importance of relaxation. A lot of the time, those hard decisions, those stressful situations, can look a lot easier to deal with when you are relaxed and free.
When you know that everything you do is ultimately up to you, and nothing is out of your reach, life becomes just a little more bearable.
Free will, whether it REALLY exists or not (see: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/02/science/02free.html?ei=5090&pagewanted=all WARNING: Nihilistic theories, that may lower your will to live, if fully understood) is a beautiful thing. Infact, its the one thing humans will always have, regardless of whether or not they can act on it.

Thanks for the link N.O.F. – interesting rehash of age old debate.
There are three points to be made about my reading articles:
1). I usually read them to the end.
2). Any mention of god causes skim reading
3). Mention of Hitler after mentioning god is the end of the article.
It would take days to explain my philosophical views on life so I will not be more in-depth than to say I am usually reactionary and I do enjoy Pinky And The Brain.

I never relax, the only time I am relaxed is when I try to sleep, and once I fall asleep I cant stay asleep for long, unless I stay up until like 4 or 5 in the morning and sleep till noon.
I tried looking up techniques for relaxing your mind, slowing down my thoughts, staying asleep and lucid dreaming and shit but I never just try the shit, I look it up and forget about it.
Fuck.

Knock down a case of brew, then go to my work shop, fire up the forge and beat the hell out of some iron.

for me going hiking, out in the desert or forest. Getting the blood pumping, fresh air... its relaxing as fuck. Also, smoking a cig at night while staring up at the moon in the desert sky...relaxation..

Also, blaring death metal and letting it consume my thoughts, letting out my bitter hatred always helps me wind down.
