Sooo I’m having my brain scanned tomorrow to see if I have a brain tumour due to having frequent dull aching in my head and blurred vision.
Has anyone else had an mri before? If so please feel free to reassure me that everythings going to be fine.

We did some stuff on MRI’s in physics a couple of years ago. I can give you my notes if you want. I can’t read them and they’re mostly unrelated drawings, but if it’ll make you feel better they’re yours.

Thanks Po,
I’d probably just get myself more freaked out so it’s okay, I’m sure it’ll all be fine. Just felt like sharing something in the RE community :P
I wonder if Coopz had an MRI on his leg after his accident?

Thanks BH, the neurologist said they thought it was unlikely for there to be a tumour but that they should check rather than just leave it, so I’ve been stuck like WHAT IF? For a few weeks. It’s the waiting thats the worst part.

I had an MRI scan to check for nerve damage in my fucked-up shoulder. It’s kinda freaky but I did yoga breathing and I didn’t get scared or anything. (It’s harder to lie absolutely still without twitching than most people think.)
If you are claustrophobic, make sure to let the clinic staff know and they can give you a sedative.
Brain tumor--? That’s not a happy thing. I hope everything goes ok.
There are lots of simple tumors and vascular abnormalities in the brain that are benign and easily fixed, so even if they find something don’t despair. Just try to take things one day at a time.
If you need somebody to talk to, I work at home so I’m always around. (If you IM me, make sure to tell me who you are so I won’t be rude to you.)
I hope you start feeling better soon! xoxoxoxo

Thanks for the advice Scarlett, i’m not claustrophobic luckily. If I get really worried I might take you up on that offer :-).
I’m hoping they wont find anything and it will just be some shitty infection thats making my brain swell a little bit causing the headaches, thats what the doctors are hoping.
I’ll have to keep everyone updated!
Thanks for the advice!

I’ve had an MRI, I almost fell asleep in the machine it was so relaxing. You just lay there and they’ll play whatever you want into the headphones for you to listen to. I actually enjoyed it.

I had an MRI done for my epilepsy when I was like 13 or so. The one I had was extremely loud and I couldn’t hear the music coming out of the headphones. I was pissed. Other than that it was just kinda boring. But hey, maybe they’ll use the dye on you like they did me so they can see colors in your brains!

It was an experience for sure.
Hope everything turns out ok for you.

From what my ex girlfriend went thru with dye, you don’t want that.
As for MRI, all you have to do is lay still...Some are in a tube, others are "Open MRI", and it is pretty much a "non-contact" test, with exception to magnetism.

Maybe I’ll be able to sleep :P unless it’s very loud. What happened to your ex with the dye?

Your welcome on the best wishes dude.
Being ran over was a long time ago, but my neck still pops and crackles to this day when I turn my head.

Wait.. Is MRI where they put you on that machine you lay down on and that large sensor thing (or whatever it is) swipes over your head and scans your skull.. I might be thinking of an xray.
If it is that I have had it lots of times and it is nothing scary, The results would be the scary part of it. If it is a tumor they should be able to treat it if it is early, It shouldn’t turn cancerous or anything like that unless you left it for like a couple years I THINK (not a doctor lol).

Thanks for the info Phil, It’s like a big tube kind of thing and you lie in it but i’m not sure about any swiping. And the dye is a liquid injected into you to show up parts of you more easily on the images I think? (also not a doctor)
Sorry your neck still isn’t fully recovered tommyboy.

Shit dude, I really hope it turns out to be something easily fixed!

Funny you should mention it! (I feel honoured you thought of me!) I will be getting my first MRI scan on monday. Read my own topic.
This will be my first, like you, and my mum has been telling me how awful it is and how scary it was when she had one. But I’m not worried about it. It just seems silly to me, when all that happens is that you slide in and lie there while they take a magnetic image of your body. I really don’t see the big deal.
Hope you get on ok buddy, you can tell me how it goes and what it was like so that I’m prepared! Best of luck. xoxoxox lawl

Lol, thanks but I’ve already grown accustomed to it!
No pain or anything like that.
I’m sure you will be ok too, modern medicine has made many advancements.
