That they wanted to own something old, for the sake of Nostalgia? Like, I feel like heading up to Goodwill and forking over a couple bucks to get the bulky, beige, computer of 1998. Maybe snag a beige keyboard, beige corded mouse, and beige vaccum tube monitor.
Transferring over games like Sim City 2000, Need for Speed I, GTA I, Fallout 1, and stuff like that.
Why do I want to do this?

Not only do I know the feeling, but I made a term for it.
"Technostalgia".
Here’s a picture from about a year and a half ago from a Goodwill run a friend and I had.
We went around the city getting people to free style, there was a dude at Gamestop rapping about his job at Chick-fil-A. Hilarious.
Also, if you ever go in Goodwill and it seems like a lot of stuff is missing, come back that night and dive the dumpster, you can find some awesome stuff in there.

Why would I need it though? I mean the computer I have now is shit, but would still rape a computer from ’98 in every way. The only purpose would really be to play an old game, and that’s pretty much it.
Oh well though. I need an excuse to go to the new Goodwill Warehouse anyway, this is good enough. I could probably get all of this for 15 or 20 bucks, which is win. As long as I can link it to the interbutts, and get utorrent it’s fine.

Or link the the internet and find some rapidshits.
Doesn’t really matter as long as I can connect to the internet, but I doubt I could really download Linkysis on it and connect to a wireless network.

I miss my original Sony Pentium I computer. Chip’s challenge was a blast! :)
I believe that is what VMWARE is for.

Fuck, I’m still using my Windows 98 box, mostly because I’m such a cheapskate.
Before flash memory became so cheap it can practically be found in cereal boxes, people would buy old PCs, wipe the hard drive clean, and load it up with MP3s. Then the PC gets mounted in the trunk of a car and becomes an MP3 jukebox, somehow controlled by the driver and playing the audio through the vehicle’s sound system. That must have really sounded like shit.
I might repurpose my Windows 98 box (first edition, too!), with its Pentium II processor, to control stepper motors for a CNC milling machine. That would require me to purchase the stepper motors and build a milling machine, which I’m not anxious to do.

Milling machines rock. Windows 98 first edition does not. Upgrade to second.

Man, I would totally buy an old cheap computer just so I could see how far I could overclock it or overload it with viruses before it becomes a smoking peice of junk.

I got rid of my Xbox to make room in my life for N64.
Fuckin’ love Yoshi’s story and Legend of Zelda.
Fuck fuckitty yeah.
I miss year 5, playing Zelda, then talking about it all day long at school, then being fucking psyched to get home and play it.
Then.. after hours and hours of school, FUCKING ZELDA TIME YEAH.

I used to do that too, except with Mario Kart, or Pokemon. Emulators are fine for now, though. The games are expensive as balls for them since almost 20 or so years has past, and all the good ones have been sieved out and made outrageously expensive, like their retail price 20 years ago. (I’m looking at you, Final Fantasy and Super Mario RPG.)

H-Dogg, you could recycle some old printers (for the steppers, carriage, belts, cogs, etc...) and make a mini CNC mill.
